This is a photo from Belen, which is on the Amazon next to Iquitos, Peru. Iquitos is the largest city in the world with no road access. The former rubber capital of the world features many striking colonial homes from that bygone era. Belen is a community of people that live on the Amazon, and will see the river rise and fall by dozens of feet, and the lower part of the houses will be underwater.

First Thursday of the New Year.
Iquitos is the largest city in the world that does not have road access.(pop 371,000) One has to take a quick flight from Lima, or the more adventurous river boats. Many of these old huts still exist and are lived in today along the ancient river “road.”
