Peru aspires to join the select cocoa market

Exports of fine aromatic cocoa from Peru have been growing at an annual rate of 22.5%, according to Jose Iturrios of Alliance Cacao Peru.

New opportunities in the international market for fine aromatic cocoa involve diversifying product supplier countries, and Peru aims to become one of the leading producers of this sector, but must keep up the competitive standards and quality in production, said José Iturrios, national director of the Alliance Cacao Peru.

US Chocolate Made with Peruvian Cocoa Wins Awards

While at the SCAA trade show recently, we sampled some exquisite chocolate from Theo Chocolate. While reading and translating news from Peru, I came across an article that talks about Theo Chocolate & their award winning chocolate made with Peruvian cocoa.

A Trip to the Chocolate Factory and a Startling Fact

 

Two of the things that we’ve always wanted to import are cocoa (cacao) & chocolate products such as nibs, and raw cocoa pasta. We have met many smaller and medium sized producers, and visited farms and seen the whole process from picking the beans, fermentation, drying, roasting, cleaning, mixing and finally to adding ingredients to form something marvelous to the tongue…
